Aim for the stars

June 2019: Shreya Ahuja and Arba Karcini present their research at the 67th ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics in Atlanta.

February 2019: Arba Karcini earns the 2nd best oral presentation award at the Biological Sciences Research Day.

January 2019: Alexis Richardson and Sophia Francisco (Biological Sciences sophomores), and Marcela Aguilera (GBCB rotation student), join our research group.

June 2018: Jingren Deng defends his PhD dissertation. Congratulations, Jingren!

February 2018: Jingren Deng, invited speaker, and Shreya Ahuja give oral presentations at the Biological Sciences Research Day.

January 2018: Morgan  Johnson (Neuroscience sophomore) and Wayne Glore (Nanoscience junior) join our research group.

December 2017: Congratulations to Nicole Smith! She earns her MS degree in Biological Sciences and moves on to pursuing an MD.

September 2017: The Lazar lab receives funding from NIGMS.

August 2017: Jingren Deng receives a GSDA Fellowship. Congratulations, Jingren!

August 2017: Arba Karcini joins our research group as a PhD student.

May 2017: Shreya Ahuja presents a poster at the Virginia Cancer Rx symposium, Charlottesville, VA.

April 2017: Jingren Deng and Nicole Smith present their research at the 2nd Biophysics Symposium at Virginia Tech.

March 2017: Jingren Deng presents a poster at Pittcon 2017, Chicago, IL.

February 2017: Nicole Smith and  Morgan Julian receive amazing news: both are accepted in medical school. Let's all congratulate them!

October 2016: Jingren Deng and Nicole Smith introduce our microfluidics and proteomics technologies to K-12 at the Science Fair at Virginia Tech.

September 2016: Shreya Ahuja and Joshua Feazell join our research group as PhD and undergraduate researchers, respectively.

June-Aug, 2016: Our research is presented to international audiences: International Conference on Small Science/Biochemical Sensors and Detection Technologies, Prague, Czech Republic; 2nd International Conference on Current Trends in Mass Spectrometry, Chicago, IL; and ISC-Molecular Diagnostics, Clinical and Biomedical Analysis, Cork, Ireland.

May 2016: Nicole Smith completes her undergraduate studies (Congratulations, Nicole!) and joins our group as a graduate student.

February 2016: Saumia Sharman, who spent some time in our laboratory to learn about applications of bioinformatics in cancer research, is awarded the 1st Place and Alternate Grand Award in Biological Sciences at the High School Science Fair (2016), and the Intel Science Talent Search Award at the Regional Science Fair.

November 2015: As part of our NSF-funded outreach/dissemination efforts, Jingren and Nicole teach other students to prepare a microreactor that speeds up the enzymatic digestion process 100 times (J. Vis. Exp. 2016, 1-7; e53564. DOI:10.3791/53564 ).

November 2015: Nicole earns one of the "Best Poster" prizes at the VT Center for Drug Discovery Poster Session.

September 2015: Carly Estrada-Palma, Faranak Zamani and Morgan Julian join our group as undergraduate researchers.

July 2015: Anissa Erkert, junior at the Sewickley High School, PA spends some time in our laboratory, as an NSF trainee, to learn about proteomics and microfluidics technologies in biological research.

June 2015: Jingren Deng and Fumio Ikenishi receive Conference Travel Awards to the 63rd ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry & Allied Topics, St. Louis, MO.

November 2014: Jingren earns a "Best Poster Presentation Award" at the 1st Biophysics Symposium at Virginia Tech.
